Tequila Lime & Fear

(Rob Raede)
Tequila, Lime, and Fear

In a dirty beachfront parking lot about a mile from Molly's bar
The dawn betrayed a dark-haired woman praying in her car
She might have been soliciting forgiveness for some sin
Or simply making peace before the battle could begin

And I was in no shape to go to war
But she rolled the window down and called me over to her door
She said I'm merely an illusion, and not what I appear
In a haunting voice with just a hint of tequila lime and fear

She came from a family where the men they all died bravely
A Texas chainsaw pedigree, half crooks, half cops, half crazy
Not sure what I was thinking when I agreed to take the risk
Guess I needed vindication more than I like to admit

But I was in no shape to tell her no
She made the case convincing on that drive to Mexico
She whispered her confession as she bit into my ear
In a haunting voice with just a hint of tequila lime and fear

Bridge
She'd come to get what's hers, the cost be damned
Said she'd earned her split in ways that I might never understand
Well I've known my share of border snakes and contrabandanistas
But nothing like this stone-eyed munequita

But I was in no shape to moralize
It took no leap of faith to know that someone had to die
She said here's courage for your nose and bullets for your bandoleer
In a haunting voice with just a hint of tequila lime and fear
